MakiA Step in the Right DirectionAfter 75 hours of gameplay and wrapping up the game, I have determined this…ZA is a LOT of a fun. Solid 8/10, if I had to give it a score. I’ve played every Pokemon game since Gen 1, and ZA offers a different experience without taking away what makes Pokemon so endearing.It isn’t perfect (no game is.)For a group of fans, lack of voice acting for the humans is an issue. Personally- it wasn’t for me, as I’ve lived through the era of RPGs that had bare minimum voice acting. So if you have similar experiences, I doubt it will be a deal breaker for you.What may be a deal breaker is that this is the Pokemon game with the least amount of diverse environments. You are kept within Lumiose City, which slowly changes but is still just in the city. For me, I appreciated it for a reason I’ll explain later. However, if you play Pokemon becuase you love adventuring through a region- then ZA may not fulfill that for you.This game also has one of the smallest rosters of available Pokemon to catch. It makes it easy to 100% the Pokedex. However, if you’re picky with which Pokemon you enjoy, then you may want to check if your faves are in this game.What the game lacks in diverse environments, it makes up for it with diverse NPC and Pokemon interactions. This is one of the reasons the confined setting works me. ZA is the Pokemon game that really explores the relationships between humans and Pokemon within an urban setting. The player will see how Pokemon and humans form bonds. Other times, you’ll see how they just learn to co-exist. It’s something I only really saw explored in the anime. I really enjoyed engaging with the concept through ZA.Speaking of NPCs, I think ZA has one of the best cast of characters in the Pokemon franchise. This is another benefit of staying in Lumiose City. The player will interact with the same characters, and you’ll get to know them pretty well. The writing is also really fun and ZA has some of the best dialogue that Pokemon has had in a while.Finally, the new battle system. If there’s something I want GameFreak to know, it’s this. Please improve and implement this battle system into mainstream Pokemon games. It completely changed how I play Pokemon. There were battles that actually worried me, because I could lose if I wasn’t prepared or paying attention. I haven’t felt like that since I was a kid.If you’re a Pokemon fan who has grown tired of its turn-based battle system, then I recommend giving ZA a chance.Was it worth the price? For me, it was. I put in a lot of hours into this game and don’t regret it. I think ZA is the step in the right direction that Pokemon absolutely needs. If you’re a Pokemon fan who relates/appreciates anything I’ve said, then I’d recommend you give it a chance. If the price is too intimidating, then wait for it to go on sale ????

JamesGreat addition to the franchiseFirst, the logistics. The package arrived promptly, case intact, and the game card works great.Now, for gameplay. I’m really enjoying the game itself. I’m only a few levels into the tournament, so my review comes from this context. The catch mechanics are similar to Legends: Arceus, and I like how they’ve intermingled Pokémon from all the different generations throughout the game as you progress. I appreciated how large the open world was in Scarlet/Violet for exploration, so I was apprehensive this wouldn’t measure up. While I think this gamescape will ultimately be smaller on the whole, the city is still massive and I like the multi-layered element (street level, on top of buildings, some tunnels/sewers). The scaling is similar to the past few generations; with a little training, you can progress through trainer battles quickly.One main complaint I’ve heard is the graphics detailing on buildings, that they’ve only really detailed buildings with which you can interact. While I don’t disagree, asthetically it doesn’t bother me, and doesn’t impact gameplay whatsoever.

Nicole ChavezPokemon ZA is a game that keeps you busy ☺️The music, graphics and story are cool. I love the clothes for the main character. Kinda hard to play because the controls for the pokemon battles is different. For example: when you are in the pokemon battle with a rogue mega evolved pokemon you have to try to defeat the pokemon and also try not to black out with each attack it counters you with. If you do black out though, there are options on whether you would like to start with the previous damage given to the pokemon or if you would like to start over. You can give up if you’d like to but you still have to battle the pokemon to continue with the story. There are also separate missions to carry out for Emma (the newest detective in the looker bureau) and certain research tasks for the newest professor Mable to complete.

MirandaThought I would hate it, but was pleasantly surprised.I’m going to be completely honest. I thought I would hate this game. I’ve played pokemon for going on 30 years. I was hesitant to buy it because the play style was like Arceus. And I absolutely hated Arceus. To give you a picture I played Arceus for 20 minutes, got anxiety from the pokemon attacking me and play style. And then I had to put it down, to never play it again. I last minute preordered this game for myself(I already had a copy preordered for my husband) after I seen spoilers I decided to just try it. I initially hated the idea of it being in a city only. And hated the play style. But I thought I might as well try it. I’ve been a dedicated pokemon fan since the very beginning. I have to at least try. I was pleasantly surprised. I actually enjoy this game. It has taken me surprise. Yes it could be better. No it’s not perfect. I still don’t care for the city life, and miss the wilds of the exploration aspect of say scarlet and violet. They could add a DLC with the “wilds” zones or something. Idk. Add islands, who knows. Keep it interesting at least. But I don’t mind the play style at all. I actually find it way easier to adapt to then Arceus. So if you are on the fence about buying it. Please just try it. You might find you actually like it.
