  • Small compact and easy to see!
I have been on the fence for years for an electronic book, as I do enjoy the niceness of a physical book. The design is sleek, and comfortable in my hands and on my eyes. I am about 4 books through already on the device in two days and wow the brightness for my eyes has been really great. This is even outside, on the porch, in the dark and in my office with lights on. The reader quality is impeccable as I can clearly see every word in the text… which for my eyes is a god send. The fit in my hand is so nice because really was worried about it being awkward, but its simple and fits perfectly as I read. Value for money seems very good, I paid full price and then got an email next day giving me 15% for signing up for kindle unlimited lol.. little late to the party Amazon haha. but at full price I like it!
  • I love my Kindle! Update!
I have had my Kindle for over a month, and I am still excited about this Kindle. However, I just saw that it is on sale (Black Friday Deal), and I wanted to cry. It is now $45 less than what I paid (excluding the cost of the charger and case; add another $60 to that $45 (Ouch!)).Then, I had to have a talk with myself, and it went like this: Trinigal, stop being upset! You are fortunate to have purchased a Kindle that works well, and doesn’t have issues (like others who have shared the dissatisfaction with their Kindle). You are still enjoying your reads and always looking forward to your next read. I then chuckled to myself, and said that the title of the next book I select should be: When is the right time to buy a Kindle? My original review is below:This is my first Kindle, so I don’t have any other Kindle to compare it to. I usually read a physical book, books on my Computer, IPad or iPhone. This Kindle makes a difference in my ability to relax while reading a book. It is an awesome device that is portable, light weight, and convenient.Although I like reading on my IPad, it will no longer be my go to device for reading (When you know better, you do better). My house is full of unread books that I bought over the years, and that really bothers me because I just couldn’t find the time to read (being a professor with lots of other academic books to read, I gave those academic books priority over a good novel). Now, I am at the point where I want to read books for relaxation purposes. I chose the Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition as part of my incentive to read a good book.I researched this Kindle for an entire month before investing in it.Let’s get to the workings of the Kindle:This 7 inch Kindle is easy to hold in my hands. The IPad truly strained my hand when I tried to use only one hand when reading. At times, I had to lean the IPad on my thighs for support. Now, there will be no more hand to thighs when reading! The Kindle set up was very easy, and user friendly. I did not experience any problems connecting to the internet. After set up, with bated breath, I waited to see how the pages turned on the Kindle, and if I will find any fault with the action of turning the pages of the book I was reading. I am happy to say there was none; no noticeable long lag time, no problems were experienced with the turning of pages on this Kindle. Then I squinted my eyes, opened my eyes wide, I turned the Kindle upside down, and side to side while turning to the next page of my book; I was trying to see if there will be any trace of the previous page as I turn to the next page ( ghosting; some users experience an imprint of the former page while moving to the next page of their book). Happy to report, I tried hard to find a problem with that but I found none. What about the battery? The battery charged very quickly, and there was no problem during that process. I did charge the battery with the case on the Kindle, (as the picture shows). The Kindle came with an 80% charge and in 30 minutes (or less) it was fully charged (100%).I am hardly ever swayed by reviews:Sometimes reviews work as an incentive, or a deterrent….I always say, try an item out and make your personal decision. This Kindle is a keeper, and I am also going to purchase the new Color Kindle Colorsoft. Conclusion:This Kindle paper white Signature Edition , Gen 12/32 GB, is truly made for reading. It is certainly a handy device for traveling, and reading on the go. It is easy on the eyes, and therefore, easy on the brain. The raspberry color is really nice, and I plan on buying an extra clear case so that I could easily see the vibrant color of the kindle.I am honestly excited to be part of the Kindle family!
  • spouse’s most used tech
I purchased this as a gift for my spouse, who had been using a version from 2018. It’s his main form of reading, and he uses it every day. He says that this is a significant update, and it is lighter, better lit, easier to use, faster, and overall worth the upgrade.
  • Happy reader
I’ve been wanting one for years and I’m glad I decided to purchase it. The price was right. I don’t know why it took me so long to buy one maybe I got tired of straining my eyes reading from my phone. It’s not heavy at all and that’s what I like not to mention the no glare screen it’s easy on the eyes. I love the color choices and the size is just right. The lighting is soft on the eyes no glare and it’s a great quality all around I’m satisfied with my purchase and enjoying my reading even more.
  • 2024 Kindle PW Signature Metallic Jade
These Kindle devices are perfect if they are gifted to you. Personally I would not spend my own money on them as I feel like they are overly expensive. I was gifted both of mine. My PW Signature was bought on the black friday sale which was even better. After tax it was $167.78! Super pricey even with sale but I opted for it since it came with no ads and it was only about $20 more that the regular PW (which the ads cost about that much to be taken off) I don’t have ads on my basic as shown in the pictures, I was able to get them off for free from an awesome agent but I heard they don’t do it anymore and you HAVE to pay. The metallic jade color is absolutely stunning honestly. I had to return my first PW signature because the warmth light wasn’t working (I really don’t think the warm light works outside like they advertise) and the battery was draining fast. I love how great customer service is, but to spend that type of money on such a basic device and it not working properly is very frustrating. Now for the review…Came from a 11th gen basic kindle. I can only compare this to that 11th gen basic. The PW Signature has a flushed screen as opposed to a recessed screen and the screen itself is definitely way more crisp and faster.I love that it’s waterproof as the 11th basic is not.The PW Signature is bigger than the basic and will obviously weigh more but it’s not too bad at all. Can’t beat the lightweight of the basic though and it’s super comfortable to hold. Now i’m not saying the PW Signature is uncomfortable but not as desirable as the basic. In technical specs the PWS has a bigger battery than the 11th gen basic but I find that both batteries are awesome I would even say that my basic can outrun the PWS in battery terms but as it should, it is a basic and does not have things like warmth mode or auto brightness like the PWS.They both use USB-C chargers and a step up to the PWS is wireless charging! I haven’t personally used the wireless charging since I didn’t buy the dock for it but I suppose that can be pretty cool and come in handy if you have a nightstand next to you. They both can do audiobooks as long as you have a bluetooth device hooked up to them.In conclusion, if this will be your first kindle or an upgrade of a super old device I would say it’s worth it. Now if you can get it gifted even better. But if you’re upgrading from the previous generation (11th) DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY…again unless you can get it is a gift! These things are great for avid readers like myself but I really cannot justify the price on them. Good little devices though.

What Customers Say:

  • Beautiful Case and Perfect for Kids of All Ages!
My daughter had been expressing interest in reading, so I bought her the kids version of my kindle and she loves it! It came with 6 months of Amazon Kids for free, and that in itself made it worth the price I paid for it. The battery lasts forever, and it was sooo easy to set up. It only allows her to read books, so it doesn’t have any other distractions like a tablet would. Setting it up took no time at all. It was fast. It also downloads books really fast too. The backlight allows for her to read at night, and has been helping her fall asleep without her tv and that’s a big deal. It’s designed really nicely and the built in case protects the kindle perfectly from drops. I love the beautiful colors on the case.
  • Great for kids!
I got this Kindle for my niece and she loves it. It’s super easy for her to use and keeps her busy with tons of books and kid-friendly content. The case feels sturdy and protects it well—definitely durable enough for a kid. The parental controls are really helpful and easy to set up, which gives peace of mind. Battery lasts a long time too. It’s a great way to get kids into reading without the distractions of a regular tablet. Totally worth it.
  • The kindle
The kindle is amazing and I used this for traveling and at home to read when I have free time and the soles is amazing and color contrast is perfect and battery life is amazing and reading is amazing and hold is perfect in my had and speed is great and brightness is perfect
  • Got my 8 year old to read more chapter books
I got the Kindle for my 8 year old for reading more chapter books. And it works. The kid liked to check out graphic novels when we went to the library. With the Kindle, we checked out ebooks from library instead. The kid has been reading more chapter books since. The Kindle is lighter and easier to carry for travel than paper books. Outside the kid’s profile, it is a normal kindle for adults as well. So I have been reading more. It is a beneficial purchase for all of us. Well worth it!
  • Bought for myself
This child kindle was on sale and I bought it for myself. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a kindle for a long time. I absolutely love it, It makes reading by the pool and outside of the beach so much easier! It syncs flawlessly with my phone in amazon account. It was easy to switch over to the adult profile. I can switch back over to the child profile and they can read their books without issue. The only problem is, if it were for a kid, it is only black. And white and my kid was disappointed in that, but it makes no difference to me. It’s a great size and comes with a cover. I don’t particularly care for the design but it works.
  • Comparing old and new Kindles
I bought this for me, an adult, partly because Wirecutter recommended it. My old Kindle is from 2012 and still works but it no longer connects directly to Amazon so it’s hard to download a book. And it doesn’t have a touch screen. So I wanted to update. I now use both Kindles – they sync easily to the whatever page I’m on. I actually prefer the feel and look of the older one, but I’m glad I got the new one with its modern features.Pros:The Kids Kindle comes with a cover. The whale cover is beautiful and makes me smile! I considered buying a plain adult Kindle, but a cover was not included, and I didn’t want the hassle of shopping for one separately – reading a million reviews, etc.Price – you get more for your money with a kids kindle, like the included cover. You can adjust the screen brightness. My old Kindle isn’t really lit, and I love that, but the adjustable brightness is handy. And you can still dim it down to virtually no backlighting. The fonts etc are adjustable. The preset layout it came with was good but I preferred the one on my old Kindle, so I adjusted the font size and the spacing between lines. You can customize a lot.The touch screen – much easier than navigating with a single buttonCons:You touch the screen to turn pages. My old Kindle has side tabs, which I prefer. It’s way too easy to accidentally turn pages when you’re holding this one. This is my biggest complaint. I deducted a star because of this. The instructions. The digital instruction manual on the old one was about 5 pages. For this kids kindle, it’s like 200. And they bury the important basics – like how to find your books – so deep that it’s frustrating to find. I ended up googling for help. The cover is so slick and smooth it’s a bit slippery.Navigation – the touch screen is nice. But the kindle has so many features – how to adjust a million things, how to access things – that navigating thru it all gets confusing. I find myself avoiding doing things because I know I’ll get lost so mostly I just read my book.Final con – Kindle books are expensive! And if you think you can save money by borrowing them from your local library, think again. Their selections are often very limited, with long wait lists, because publishers charge them so much for Kindle lending books. It’s a bit smaller than my old one – half an inch or less, but I miss the extra size.
  • Great for avid readers
My daughter has loved her kindle! The back light on her old one stopped working, but with the warranty we were able to have it replaced!
  • AMAZING PRODUCT WITH AN AMAZING WARRANTY!!!!!!!
I am just beyond impressed with Amazon and Kindle! I bought my daughter a Kid’s Kindle nearly two years ago. About a week ago it would not turn on at all. So I began the return process, which was a little tricky, to be honest. But I did get it done and received a brand new updated Kindle AND a case, which I did not expect! Turns out the kid dropped it in the bathtub, dried it well, and later stated it didn’t turn on….. but that is ALL still under warranty. I cannot say enough for Amazon. It is an amazing little product anyways. My daughter reads incessantly…. the equivalent of 1 Harry Potter book every two days. We have Kindle Unlimited for our family and it is sooo worth it. The Kid Kindle comes with a subscription for kids, but she read all of them in the first year, so now she’s just on our Kindle Unlimited. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! AND worth to note: this is the EXACT Kindle you will get if you get the adult one, just a cuter cover (you can buy another if you don’t like it) and an amazing warranty. There are options to have it shut off at certain times, which is nice. We love that she brings it EVERYWHERE and always has her current book with her ready to read INSTEAD of being on a screen. The Kindle “screen” is a book, don’t get me started, lol. #BooksNotiPads is our motto!!!

What Customers Say:

  • Cute and functional!
Gorgeous case with excellent functionality. My kindle fits snug inside, with enough surrounding coverage so that I feel comfortable without a screen protector. It’s easy to grip and there are magnets on the front and back to keep the lid shut, or held open. The kickstand is handy as well as the grip strap. I likely won’t use the incorporated card slot on the kickstand but it could prove useful (likely would hold 2 cards max).
  • Great replacement cover
This is a great replacement cover. Works well, fits well and looks exactly as described.
  • Beautiful colors, well designed, and durable
I bought this case a year ago this month. I use my Kindle every day and take it with me on trips, to the pool, to the beach. Basically, everywhere. When I say this case has been put to the test I mean it. I’m amazed at how well it’s held up. The color is still vibrant. The shut-off feature still works well when the cover is closed. The easel feature in the back is terrific, keeping the Kindle stable while being upright (easy, hands-free reading). At this product’s price point, I could easily replace it annually but why do that when this one still looks and works great. I will definitely be buying MoKo again.
  • Great kindle case
I have been loving this for my kindle! It’s cute and good quality. I love the stand on the back and it feels versatile. It feels like my kindle is very secure and protected in it. It’s awesome!
  • Perfect for the Newest Paperwhite
This is a great case! It’s not as pink as I’d like, but I guess the rose gold is more on the gold side, but it’s still really pretty. The case works as expected, as well. It fits my Paperwhite with holes for all the ports in the proper places. It seems sturdy and a good value for the cash. The stand and other features work as they are supposed to. It’s super lightweight, which I wanted and figured would be the, um, case. Lol. It was super easy to put the Kindle in as well, no tricky setups. It’s a straightforward case that fits the device for which it is intended. the end
  • Great Case for Travel and Everyday Use—Highly Recommend
I’m new to having a Kindle, and I love this case for the improved handling and protection it provides. The design doesn’t interfere with using the Kindle at all—buttons, charging, and reading are all completely accessible. I’ve had it for a few months and traveled with it in both my luggage and purse, and the non-leather material along with the high-quality construction still looks great. I expect it will continue to wear well. I also appreciated the wide range of color choices and the excellent price. Highly recommend!
  • Great!
This is a great case! It’s easy to use, has options for different ways to hold it or set it up, seems to work well with the buttons and is super cute. Fits the 7″ Paperwhite kindle great!
  • Love this cover!
Great protection for my kindle and I use the option for it to stand up for me to read hands free way more often than I imagined I would. Also love the strap to stick my hand through to hold the kindle securely.Plus it’s pretty.

What Customers Say:

  • “Fast and Reliable Kindle Charger!”
The Amazon Kindle Charger works perfectly with my Kindle. It charges quickly and consistently, and I’ve had no issues with connectivity or slow charging. The compact design makes it easy to take on trips or use at home, and the cable is long enough to reach comfortably from an outlet. I also appreciate that it’s an official Amazon product, so it feels safe and reliable compared to third-party chargers.Overall, a simple but essential accessory it keeps my Kindle ready to read at all times. Highly recommend!
  • Perfect Nightstand Companion
This wireless charging dock for my Kindle Paperwhite is exactly what I needed! It keeps my Kindle conveniently powered up right on my nightstand, so it’s always ready for my next reading session. The dock is simple to use, charges reliably, and looks clean and unobtrusive. I love the convenience—no more fumbling with cords at night. Highly recommend
  • Does exactly what it’s supposed to
This charging dock is very easy to set up and use. My new kindle fits effortlessly into the slot and it appears to be charging just as fast as advertised. It would be a nice feature to have the LED indicator change color or something when charging is complete. My old Kindle had a LED that changed from amber to green when the battery got above a certain percent charge.I like that it has a smaller footprint than the wireless chargers that require a device to lie down flat.I haven’t had any trouble getting it to line up properly so I can’t comment on the blinking light issue. It might have to do with the kind of case people are using. The instructions say the case can’t be thicker than 4mm.
  • Worth the money and looks great!
This is probably one of my favorite purchases! I don’t even look at my kindle battery anymore I just set it on the charge for a bit before I read and it is good to go! I use my kindle a lot and I was always monitoring the battery life with my previous one. It was most annoying when I would have to plug it in while I was reading on it. Now with this charger I never worry because it is always charged up. This is worth every penny spend! I also like the black color because it matches all of my other chargers.
  • Does what it’s supposed to do
Nice charger. I wish it changed colors when it’s charged. For the price, I think it def needs more to it than it just charging your kindle. It has malfunctioned and kept beeping like other customers said but I just unplug it and plug it back up and it worked. I do like that it blinks when it isn’t aligned with the charging dock.
  • It was worth the risk of buying a “like-new” for a much lower price
I was hesitant about getting the “like new” option, but it was way cheaper. It came in original packaging, it was just a bit torn, but the charger works just fine so I’m happy with it 😀
  • Paperwhite Charger
Perfect ????Charges fastLove the felt on it to prevent scratchesEase hold of kindle as wellQuality goodLight weight and durableReadable if neededDurable for sure
  • Works for Paperwhite and Galaxy 24 Ultra
Works well charging the Kindle Paperwhite, even with cover on. But also works well charging Samsung Galaxy 24 Ultra, even with the Samsung cover on! I ordered the cover direct from Samsung when I ordered the phone. Your result may vary for phones, depending how thick the cover is – works for the example above- but for Paperwhite with Amazon cover works well.

What Customers Say:

  • Easy to hold
Absolutely love this over other models I have tried. This one is easy to clip on to the side of my Kindle, while maintaining good contact and without obstructing any words on my pages. I like the larger size of the remote. Other ring-style versions were harder to hold or keep track of. Love that the remote comes with a carry strap that I can wrap around my wrist as I often fall asleep when I read. So far batter life is good. Love that it automatically turns off. The power button is more inconspicuous and I wish I had a silicone cover for the remote to make it even easier to grip. There is a clicking sound when I change pages compared to some models but it really isn’t a deal breaker!
  • it’s a total game-changer!
hands down my favorite Kindle accessory to date! This little gadget is such a great tool. It’s incredibly easy to use, and it allows me to read hands-free, even while cozy under a blanket. It charges quickly, and the battery lasts a long time, so I don’t have to worry about frequent recharges. The remote fits perfectly on my Kindle, and it changes pages smoothly with just a click. It even has a loop where you can add a chain to wear it on your wrist, making it even more convenient. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves reading on their eReader — it’s a total game-changer!
  • I can’t live without it!
I am obsessed with this clicker. I don’t know how I ever read without it! I also crochet and have carpal tunnel in my hands, so not having to hold a book and being able to just click has been a huge lifesaver for me personally. It works great and the charge lasts forever. If you’re considering buying this, go ahead and buy a little cushion to hold your Kindle too, and you will be all set!
  • Flash with every page turn??
I like the product, but was unprepared for the LED flash with each page turn. It is annoying to the reader and to partners when you’re reading in bed at night. The product was packaged very well, came with fairly good instructions and seems to otherwise be a quality gadget that helps me get more out of my Kinder which was causing severe strain in my left hand since the Paperwhite doesn’t really have any good solution for left handed people or left hand page turning. It requires what, for me at least, is an awkward swipe rather than just a tap.
  • Kindle Page Turner
This little gadget is fantastic! The buttons function flawlesslely and the remote connects easily to the page turner device. It has decent range – I’ve used it with a few feet of distance. It fits my kindle even with a thick case that has a cover, although I do sometimes have to readjust it to make contact with the screen. If you’re using a thinner case or no case at all, this would not be a problem whatsoever. The battery life is amazing – I recieved this product a few weeks ago and still have not needed to charge it yet.
  • Love it
For years I looked for a way to read books in bed without having my arm uncovered to turn pages on a cold winter night. I found this last year and used it often and loved it. I pulled it out again this year as the temps changed, charged it up and it still works great! I highly recommend it. I have a very thick IPad cover so I do have to put a folded tissue in the clip to make it fit tight. That is a small adjustment for reading with warm arms.
  • Great for kindle AND tablet
I love this thing so much, I use it daily with my paperwhite device. As an added bonus, I’ve had issues with a ring style Bluetooth turner when using my tablet while connected to a TV so I can read on my treadmill and THIS item works perfectly every time!
  • My favorite accessory for my kindle!
The greatest accessory ever! I love my little clicker so much! It is so convenient for when I want to read with my arms under my blanket! And it works great with my case on. I got the green one and it’s the exact same color as my kindle. It doesn’t get in the way of my reading and it’s super easy to use! I HIGHLY recommend this!

What Customers Say:

  • Stiff competition for the color Kobo
There are different points to consider for those Kindle users looking to add to their collection and those who are considering jumping into Kindle or eBooks in general, for the first time. For the person upgrading, the Paperwhite charging cradle works with this. Of course it also charges with the included USB-C cable.I’m not yet seeing much by way of color content for books, except of course for comics. So far, it’s largely just the covers. But once the big fish gets involved, things change. The publishing industry may have a weird love/hate relationship with Amazon, but it’s obvious they certainly can’t ignore this. I’m particularly hoping charts in more technical books will be colored. There is a yellow bar along the bottom of the screen. It’s been discussed online a lot. I’ve heard rumors that Amazon is aware of this and working to fix it, but I haven’t heard if that fix is software or hardware based. Because of that, this feels a little rushed to market to be in time for the holiday season. I mean, the QA team can’t have missed it. But this is the only issue I’ve found. For those who are considering this as their first Kindle, the main competitor to this device in the color eInk market right now is Kobo, and their closest match is the Libra. I’ve put a photo of both side by side to show the size difference. The main advantage, as I see it, of the Libra is the pencil. It’s the best of the Colorsoft and a shrunken down version of the Scribe in one, with notebooks and the ability to write on whatever book you’re reading. I’m definitely hoping Amazon puts out a color Scribe next year.At the time of this writing, the Libra is the cheaper of the two. Both are waterproof with the exact same rating. I wouldn’t take one on a kayak and let it sit in a puddle, but don’t worry if one falls in the tub. I do not understand how people can read print books in the bath. I’d destroy one just by my hands being wet. The wide variety of waterproof eReaders has finally opened that up for me.Both devices offer 32 gig of memory, which is bordering on crazy. I have 5,417 books downloaded, over which almost a thousand are comics, and I have 15 gig left. However, they differ in total addressable memory, that is memory not used by the system. For the Kindle it is 24.21 gig. The Kobo won’t tell me the total amount, but I have 24.7 gig left with a few hundred downloads. Both offer audiobooks via Bluetooth, but only the Kindle is compatible with Audible. Kobo has their own, somewhat more limited, audiobook store. The screen on the Kindle is a newer model, but newer isn’t necessarily better. See New Coke for those old enough to remember that. I find the colors comparable, but I think Kindle is a tad more vibrant and Kobo is a tad more accurate. Kindle tinges things a bit on the blue side.In terms of content, from the public library, Kobo allows you to search for books, put them on hold or check them out directly from the integrated app on the device. Kindle allows you to borrow the book on the library website, go to the website, and choose which device to send it to. The convenience winner depends entirely on your public library situation. I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan, which grants me access to both library systems. With Kindle, I can borrow from either one, no problem. With Kobo, I can only link one library card to the device, so only borrow from one. I have seen a handful of books that offer Send to Kindle, but not ePub download. Mostly manga. So the winner depends on your taste and library situation. For sending documents to the device, both support sideloading, but that’s a pain. For Kindle you can use the website or the email address. Easy. For Kobo, you can save your files in a set folder in a DropBox account or Google Drive and then download to the device. That’s two steps, and requiresa separate subscription, but it leaves your documents backed up and easy to access. Again, the winner depends on your situation. Kobo also supports storing documents from Pocket, but I have not gotten that to work. I think that’s more a me problem than a device problem, to be honest. For unlimited subscriptions, both offer their own, but I think Kindle Unlimited has the better selection. If you read comics, there is no contest here. Comixology is the digital king of that domain, and the only eReader that will work on is the Kindle (of course that excludes tablets like the iPad). The colors aren’t as bright, but to me they feel a bit more like a print comic. The Colorsoft does support Guided Reading, where it shows a panel at a time and guides you across the page. This would be perfect, except it does not change orientation as you turn the device. I’m not sure when Kindle lost that, and I have checked setting to see that I didn’t leave it locked. You can turn from portrait to landscape view through the font menu, but that’s a pain when you’re trying to read a comic. This makes some panels, say those that would stretch fully across the page, a bit hard to read, where turning the page and having it go widthwise across the longer edge would have made it easy. For highlighting, the Kobo only highlights in yellow. You can change the color of the pen, but not the highlighter. For Kindle, the default is the exact same shade of yellow, but you can choose between that, pink, blue, and orange just by tapping on it.If you like physical page turn buttons, Kobo has that and Kindle doesn’t, though I will say Kindle put the power button on the side, which seems more intuitive, or at least more of the common practice. Kobo put it in the back, and I keep forgetting it’s there. It will be interesting to see if Nook jumps into this game next. It’s close between the two. I’d say if you want notetaking, go Kobo. If you want comics, go Kindle. If you want the better reading experience with black and white text books, I think the Kindle is a bit crisper and faster to refresh, so that would be my favorite. If the question is one of do you want to jump to ebooks at all, there are a few points to keep in mind. One, there is some research that says ebook readers retain a bit less than print counterparts, not in terms of comprehension but in terms of chronology. So if a character goes home and stops off at the hardware store, the grocery store, and the post office, a print reader will be able to recall the order more precisely. An ebook reader will only recall that the character went to the three places so long as there is no plot concern around which came first (the person at the hardware store sent regard to the postal clerk for example). I will point out this has only been done with people new to eReaders, using tightly timed experiments, and the eBook readers use part of that limited time to go through how to use the devices. So if it’s 25 minutes, print readers get 25 minutes to read, eBook readers get 10 minutes to learn to use the device and 15 minutes to read. It’s not as bad a methodology as when they were using iPads only with notifications turn on, but it’s still not a pure apples to apples comparison in my book. I suspect this is what also leads to the conclusion that ebook readers read faster. I would love to see the results of equal time and then check the participants’ memories a week later. Two, retrieving information is much faster on an eBook. You can’t text search print. Having made the switch it drives me crazy when a character repeats something someone said offhandedly a hundred or so pages ago and I can’t find it again. In ebooks, that takes seconds. For nonfiction, this is especially important.Three, unlimited libraries are great. A few years back I helped an old lady move into assisted living and she lost almost her entire library. There just wasn’t room for it. Most of mine fits in my purse.Four, the ecological impact of eReaders is shrinking. If you go by the product listing, Kindle creates roughly 42 kg of CO2 in its lifecycle. A single print book creates 7.46 kg in manufacture and transport. This does not include the impact of cutting down trees for paper. So, if you read a minimum of 6 different books on the device though its lifetime that you would otherwise purchase in print, you will have a smaller footprint with this. Here, to me the decision is easy. I’ve gone eBook and I’m not going back.
  • A must for Kindle Afficionados
Alright grab a cup of coffee or a cocktail and settle back as I spin my yarn. So, I’m a big fan of kindles. Since 2010 when we had this technology explosion, smartphones and tablets came on the scene and e-paper became an alternative to reading on LCD and OLED, I have been a “Kindle Aficionado.”. I have gotten many, many kindles and sometimes paid more for them than I would have preferred, like 350-400 bucks. I usually can recoup about 100 bucks of that by selling them on later after I’m done as I take care of my devices.I got the first generation Paperwhite with the ever-so-slight visible backlight “issue” that people overeacted to. I remember when that got improved and the processor speed went up making it more usable. I remember when we got warm mode for the first time. I remember the first kindle with Auto Brightness. I remember “whispersync” when we could actually download things off wifi for free via 3G networks. I remember Kindle Voyage’s glass screen and coffin-shaped back. I remember the original Oasis with the detachable and expensive “leatherette” cover. I remember the waterproof second generation Oasis. All of them were wonderful and all had pretty much steady improvements. All still usable, Still have a Voyage to this day because of it’s glass screen quality, despite it not having enough space.Unlike phones, kindle devices last a long time, well past their internal technology sell by date. The kindle I replaced was relatively new for Kindles, but ancient in tech terms (2019, 6 years ago. Technology uses dog years so about 50 years old, lol). Still works flawlessly. Couple issues, one is no color and the other is no USB C (or wireless charging). So it’s time, I traded one of my 2nd gen Oases in for this device and Although it’s not a premium build as Kindles go, it’s a color paperwhite – And probably the first of many color e-ink displays – it’s features were an ABSOLUTE MUST for me. Color, wireless charging and USB C so I can start getting rid of all micro USB keyed cables in my house. These are all big deals. I skipped the scribe, it’s cool but I’ll wait for the eventual color version, color is that big of a deal. Now you’re probably reading some of the pearl clutching reviews people have posted complaining about those things like yellow bottom border, lower resolution and less white “paper” – it’s now more of a greyish color and it’s a slight step back I will admit. But the fact I can see all my books in color – pretty decent color mind you – that alone is worth the cost of admission.I read comics and “graphic novels”. and I’m reading the X-men series from the 80s on up atm and am loving it. Been doing it on an ipad pro, brand new and extremely expensive and fragile device also not worth what is charged for it (1100 bucks). I basically use it to browse the web occasionally and read comics. Now I can read them on my kindle colorsoft signature edition along with my books instead of not being able to. Also, books with 2 color printing like the Illustrated Silmarillion now have their colored titles show up which is refreshing and something I love about the print editions. These also have their color illustrations in color instead of a greyscale mess where before you’d try to work out what it was. It’s a game changer. SImply put. For those who read books with “plates” (as long as the kindle edition supports it I assume) you now get them in color. Comics are almost like reading old yellowed comic books. It has a charm that makes it worthwhile. Now, is it as vibrant as an Ipad, no, it’s not and there might be some use cases for still using your ipad first for art heavy books, but being able to see them in color with only an e-ink device is still huge, as before you wouldn’t even be able to appreciate or make sense of them. You’d never open them, it was print only and no color in the print ever breaking up the monotony. The fact this is a thing of the past now ? That’s fantastic and worth the tradeoffs. The trade offs – let’s talk about them. They’re only issues if you had bad expectations, wanted a tablet, or are OCD. That’s my feelilng anyway. You get a greyer, “dirtier” background and a lower resolution of 150 DPI when images are on the screen. Sure, this is kind of noticable but not deal breakers by any means unless you’re “pixel peeping” and letting your OCD get the best of you. If you are using warm mode the bottom of the screen can geta bit yellowish (I mean it’s warm mode, the whole screen is getting more yellow) but it can be slightly un-uniform and I guess this freaks some folks out that want something perfect. I’m not one of them, but that’s probably the reason for the returns and 3 stars I guess. It is what it is… those people will miss out on color e-ink.Also I’m sure they’ll improve these very minor limitations over time. Similar thing happened with the OG paperwhite and itnever stopped me reading on it, I eventually replaced it and got a better display and more speed.Let’s face it. Your average kindle you could expect to keep for 2 or 3 years until a new model comes out and then sell it for a few bob on ebay, provided you didn’t lose it or damage it in that time. Or you could keep it for 10 years until it was totally obsolete and nobody wanted it and have to toss it as it fails as all electronics do these days as nobody repairs em anymore.I know what I’ve been doing with mine, flipping them back and getting the latest and greatest.Technology will always improve and I look forward to future kindles with improvements, but know this much… I’m not going back to black and white only. Even if it’s a little cleaner and whiter. Also I have some older kindles still so If I want that experience I can have it.Some people may not be able to make this trade off and that’s fine – you can keep to your paperwhite. The speed of this device is also quite good, yes it has to do page refresh more often on color but old kindles had that issue too and had worse “dirt” that accumulated, I think people today are a bit spoiled. One area I would like to see is 64 GB, with color file sizes are more, and 32 GB is not a lot. 64 GB and 128 GB ought to be the norm, come on, it’s 2025, and NAND flash is cheaper than ever and getting cheaper constantly. I remember when kindles had 2 GB on them. 2 GB ! lol.All in all, I’m all in. And i’m excited where the future of color e-ink is going.

  • Really great and lightweight, like new perfect!
Amaaaazing, bought refurbished like new and it works perfectly, couldn’t even tell it was used ???? battery power is awesome too, I rarely charge it and read A LOT. Super easy and simple to use. Comfortable to hold, quick no lag when turning pages or tapping around. Over all quality of the e-reader is great I’ve noticed a big difference in my eyes, they feel less strained after reading at night.
  • Great Kindle! Fast and light and versatile way to read everywhere and anywhere!
I love this Kindle. We bought one for each of our grandchildren last Christmas and they use them constantly. I finally decided to upgrade from an older Paperwhite that was slowing down and am glad I did. I’ve been reading much more and really enjoying it on trips.I like many of the features especially being able to skip reading glasses and choose a larger font size. The weight and size are great , even with a cover , and I can easily slip it into any bag I’m using and sometimes even a back pocket. The battery lasts for a very long time.I do wish there were buttons for page-turning. I find myself accidentally turning page often and that can be annoying. This is a great little device and a super positive escape from the email and distractions that come with reading on a tablet.I purchased a “like new” Kindle and it is truly like new. No issues at all.
  • love my kindle
Purchased this like new from Amazon and it came in perfect condition. Reading on it has been great and finally got me back into reading books again. I love the green color i chose. Great value and easy to use. Small and fits in my purse. I traveled with it and read on the plane, the trains, and before bed and barely needed to charge it! It holds charge so well
  • Highly recommend for the dedicated reader!
The Kindle Paperwhite has truly been a game-changer for my reading habits! The battery life is absolutely fantastic; I can go for a whole week without needing to charge it, which is perfect for travel or just reading around the house without interruption. It’s incredibly light, making it comfortable to hold for long periods without any strain. But the best part has to be how much easier it is on my eyes compared to reading on my phone. The display is crisp and clear, and there’s no glare, even in bright sunlight. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dedicated e-reader!
  • A digital blessing!
I’ve always been a “you’ll have to pry this book out of my cold, dead hands” kinda person, but it really is a game changer. After being on the fence for several months a sale popped up for the paperwhite for $99 and I dived on it! It’s light and convenient enough to carry around in your bag or just on your person and easy enough to hold for long periods of time. The UI takes a little getting used to, but it’s manageable and you don’t feel like you’ve messed everything up by clicking the wrong button.Honestly… I bought this as “refurbished” but it’s in EMACULATE condition! As someone who is very particular about their devices I was worried I was going to get a banged up Kindle. I mean, for $99 who wouldn’t have been afraid they were going to get a less than stellar device. It looks like they took right out of a new box and put it in mine! The battery life is great and hits 100%, it quickly “flips” through pages and the fonts are customizable as well! My favorite thing has to be the screen! It’s so clear and kinda trippy for the fact that it looks so much like paper!I couldn’t be happier with my purchase! If you’re on the fence wait till they go on sale and DO IT! If you enjoy reading enough to even consider a Kindle, you’ll be tickled pink!
  • almost perfect
i love this thing. i haven’t read since high school and now i read multiple hours per day.the kindle makes it so nice. i currently have about 100 books on my kindle and i can’t believe i can access them anything i want.it was weird at first going from physical book to the kindle but now i can’t stand physical books. i’ll never go back. i can hold the kindle with 1 hand and i need 2 hands to hold a book.you also need a lamp to read at night with books. dont need light to read a kindle. it doesn’t have blue light so your eyes don’t get tired.you can also change the fonts to very small to extremely large which is nicethe only reason i’m not giving it 5 stars is because you can’t change the wallpaper unless you pay $20. it harasses you with ads non stop, you can’t escape the ads. they make you pay $20 to disable the ads which should be illegal. the wallpaper is also showing 24/7, you can’t just have a blank screen. sometimes the ads will show me cringy book covers that are for romance books and it’s embarrassing when other people can see that. i’m a straight man, no i do not want to see half naked men with rock hard abs as a wallpaper. hopefully they remove the $20 requirement to disable the ads. This thing goes on sale very often. just wait until it goes on sale.
  • If you have Kindle Unlimited you need this device
This is an excellent investment if you have Kindle Unlimited or just an extensive collection of ebooks. I had been reading a lot since my college quarter ended, but I wasn’t enjoying it on my phone. I have had a Kindle before, and it was used more as a tablet than for reading. My sister had just bought a Kindle for reading and said she wished she had gotten the Paperwhite. So I decided to give it a go for my birthday. It is so lovely. First, it is easy on my eyes. As I age, I’ve noticed my eyes get fatigued easily. Next, it is only for books. There are no distractions from other apps or phone notifications. Last, I bought a clear one-piece case for it and a hand strap to hold it. It works perfectly, and I am not dealing with the floppy reader in the typical case. I was also worried since this came with ads, which I dislike, but these are exclusive to Kindle books. I have some new titles on my to-read list after finishing my current series. I
