I usually define words for my kids, but my 8-year-old has reached a point where I figured she could learn to find her answers rather than being given the answers. We live in Connecticut and I was highly disappointed by the fact that her only experience with a dictionary has been the toddler dictionary I had at home.This dictionary was bought to supplement the workbook that prepares her for the SBAT (standard test given to third graders). Half of the new words given in those passages cannot be found in this version of the dictionary so we still need to use my dictionary or Google to find the word.If you just want something to help them find words in something like Dogman graphic novels, this will suffice. If you need something that will help them with understanding their standardized tests, neither this nor the Intermediate versions are thorough.As other reviews note, the pictures are lovely. My daughter read the definition for “opal” purely from admiring the picture of the gem. I’ll give this edition positive points for fostering curiosity. It’s a gentle bridge from the toddler edition to a real dictionary. The most valuable lesson is learning how to use a dictionary at all. Unfortunately, this skill is not taught in any of the three CT elementary schools we have attended.No regrets on this purchase. It may not be enough, but it has been a useful tool in teaching a child to research.

Has very clear and simple instructions, love the dummy proof pictures and love it’s variety of information. Everything from items like building traps, hope I never need to use, to how to dry meat to a powder, or set up water. Very good read for those curious like me, to people who have these projects and need instructions. I like it.

I bought this for my boyfriend and he LOVES it. It is full of projects and information that keeps him interested and engaged. Unfortunately, the skills he is gaining could also be very relevant in the future.

This book is so helpful and full of great tips, I love the pictures and that it gives a list of everything you would need to complete these survival projects. This book is very helpful for if you are trying to know how to build things that will help if there is ever an end of the world situation. I would highly recommend, be mindful that you will need to purchase the items needed to complete these projects but the step by step instructions are very clear and concise.

I am not one of the hard core “Preppers”, but I do believe that we should be ready for emergencies. I have purchased many items for my emergency kit from Amazon, the prices are always great for what I am ordering. This book is full of helpful hints and suggestions of how to prepare, how to store items and what you should be having “at the ready”. My biggest issue is about the book, it’s about the shipping cost, why is it 50% of the cost of the book itself. This seems to be common with ALL the books sold at Amazon. My suggestion is, buy this book, you may not think you need it until YOU DO. But see if you can find it online from another seller that doesn’t kill you on the shipping.

The DSM-TR is a rewrite of the DSM5. The text is a bit easier to consume in layout as far as diagnostic manuals go. Has also been helpful in the classroom. If you want to stay current, you’ll need this update.

The best book ever. I used this to study for my state exam.

I ordered four of these “shipped and sold from Amazon” as opposed to a bookstore/private seller for fear of getting a counterfeit. They were softcover versions. Three of them were wrapped in plastic and one was not. The one that was not immediately felt cheap. The paper felt too thick, and the outer cover was poorly placed. I unwrapped one of the others and could tell a difference in quality in every aspect. On the back of the three wrapped books is an authentication seal that is a QR code you scan to make sure yours is authentic. It is an unremovable sticker and not an image. The fourth one was missing this. I wouldn’t have known about this if I had not ordered multiple copies. I was worried about this due to the high price of these. If you’re spending this much you want the real thing and not a knock off that’s going to fall apart. So if you order one copy, check the back and see if the seal is there and scan it. If not, send it back.

One of my friends had this book and showed me it and I fell I love it. I love the pics, the descriptions, and all the uses for the herbs and plants.Unrelated to the actual product, the seller uses the UPS Mail Innovation service for package tracking, which I didn’t care for. Amazon notified me of it being attempted to be delivered but I was home all day and no sign of it, so I got worried. Then it changed to holding at a pickup location but didn’t specify where which worried me more. I learned that if I go to the website of the delivery method (USPS, UPS, FedEx) and place the tracking number there, it’s better at locating things for me and is more specific in the arrival date.

Very good practice and supplimental work for my kids. I purchased the Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Phonics books for them in 1st grade and Kindergarten (this is being used for an older vpker). Fantastic book. I buy these for all of my children in both elementary and middle school. These books have a very good number of problems and they follow topic curriculum at school. Wish they had a spectrum books for high school.

I like this better than the scholastic work books for summer homework. Less fluff and pictures, but they explain how to solve the problems, and more methodical.

Personally I love this book for the reading, math and English. However for science I believe it was a little too bland. But, still a good book. Helped me take my reading score from a 66% to a 79% and my math from a 77% to an 88%.

If you getting ready for teas, this is the best book, saying that for because that help me pass the teas with a score of 77%… quit tip use the teas app as well for practice, the question in it are similar to the exam

The strategies and study tips are practical and make studying much less overwhelming. Definitely worth it for anyone serious about passing the TEAS!

Anil’s storytelling added human faces to many names I was already familiar with, but only in an abstract way. That’s the history part, written in a very personal and engaging way that only a good writer can do. At the same time the history of the development of ML theory is complete and expounded upon in enough detail that anyone with college level math abilities could follow along if so desired. (I expect many will skip some of those parts either because they know it or they don’t need to know it. Perhaps those sections could be better sectioned to enable skipping.) Finally he asks very good questions about the nature of intelligence and how AI does or does not overlap with human intelligence, and well as the dangers it poses and benefits it may offer.The way the author maintains the big picture while leading the reader through a “live” minute-by-minute narration of compelling details reminds me of the style of VS Naipal, despite being a completely different genre.

Given the increasing use of machine learning embedded within everyday software as well as its greater use in aiding decision making, an overview of the foundation for non-experts is a useful addition. The book goes through both the history as well as many of the main algorithmic ideas in a straightforward way that allows one to follow along irrespective of mathematical background. The criticism I have is merely that it starts out by assuming 0 knowledge to frame some basic mathematical notation and ideas and then eventually gets into topics which require some linear algebra and calculus to appreciate. This isn’t in itself a bad thing but it ends up being an internal inconsistency of level of math in the book as it is highly unlikely a reader would be able to follow the details of the second half from having learnt the math from the first half.The book is split into 12 chapters going from basic math to neural networks. It discusses what the uses of machine learning are and its basic statistical nature of finding patterns in data through the use of computers. The field has a rich history crossing computer science, information theory and mathematical statistics. Starting out by going through the computer science and math the author and the ideas of feature space and linear algebra including PCA and eigenvectors. He then moves on to some early days when algorithms were being developed and discusses how the SVM algorithm was developed and his source interviews include Thomas Cover, the author of the main information theory textbook. He discusses Hopfield networks and how networks can store memory and then moves on to deep neural networks and the early work of Yan Le Cun and Geoffrey Hinton. This is where the book for me was most interesting as he discusses the puzzling nature of double descent and grokking in the training of large neural networks and some experts perspectives on these topics.Overall the book is readable but for me was slow to get started and then much more interesting in the latter half. I don’t think one can learn the math for the second half from the first half as mentioned above and for that reason I found it a bit inconsistent in slow but the overall material was enjoyable to read think the book is a good effort on giving an overview of a field in the popular imagination.

One of the best books you will find on AI and ML anywhere. I wanted to thank the author. Well written to cover the history and math behind AI. Beginners can skip the detailed math and proofs. I just hope a next edition gets more into attention networks and transformers.

This is the best science book I have read in two decades. I have a mathematics background (MSc in Electrical Engineering and a doctorate heavy on structural equation modeling), which helps wehn reading the book.However, a modest knowledge of linear algebra and calculus will suffice. ML and LLM are not that complicated when taking a helicopter view of the AI field. The scale of what is being done, at speed, is what impresses me.The books is succinctly written. It is possible to skip the details in the matrix manipulations and only follow the main arguments.Overall, the best introduction to AI I know of.

Instant classic. Explains the why of AI (how it started and currently works) in a way people who suck at math can still grasp.

This is an excellent book! It is insightful and revealing. I had read three other books on AI which focus on coding and that reference technical papers for the algorithms involved. However this book presents the math is a really intuitive form. It provides a perspective that is open to uncertainty and that provide a platform to include your interpretation while delving in the history that involve the intellectual giants that created all the bases for a now common used tools that are known superficially by a grand portions of users. This book is highly recommended!!
