  • Awesome Read, Thankful for the Perspective
Great book and eye opening book that allowed me to realize the power of influence and going through life receiving and believing as I saw, was taught, was raised to believe and through the influence of others. A process termed domestication! Wow!In order to be the master of my life having something worth submitting to God I must dream of a world, life and future that aligns with what I believe, what I think and what i desire to see in my life! The four agreements give me a framework of what’s necessary if I want to do so!
  • More interesting and thought provoking than expected
    Recommended by my therapist.
  • Awesome book that contains lots of good, useful advice
This book is supposed to contain ancient Toltec wisdom. The concepts in this book make so much sense. I try to keep these 4 concepts, or, “agreements,” in mind-this book has enriched my life!
  • Quick and Powerful Read
Very happy with the powerful lessons learned in such a quick read! Incorporating the lessons learned in this book lead to immediate returns!
  • Become a Better You
What can we do to improve ourselves as humans? There are thousands of recipes for self- improvement and no end to the number of books written on the subject. One book that is simpler and easier to understand that others is The Four Agreements, a philosophical/self- help book that aims to make you a better person.Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, this book outlines four broad, simple goals that will help each one of us gain more freedom over our lives and improve as people. The four truths are: Being impeccable with your word; not taking things personally; not making assumptions; and always doing your best. The first one, about being true/impeccable to your words, forms the groundwork for the other truths. This book’s greatest strength is its simplicity. It doesn’t get bogged down in philosophical lingo and this fact makes it a good choice for those who appreciate philosophy, but who get tired of philosophical books that require a bachelor’s degree and access to a dictionary to understand. The book is a quick read and the way it is written, anyone can directly grasp its key points. The Four Agreements and its advice are things that have been said in one form or another by other philosophy books and/or self- help books. The message can get a little repetitive as you read, but I didn’t mind because I feel like this is the type of general advice that needs to be drilled into your head. The more you hear it, the more it will hopefully ring true and the more likely you will be to take action.I read this book in a single sitting, while I was on an airplane flying home from vacation. I agreed with and liked what I read and immediately started to think about my own life and how well I am living up to these four agreements. I would rate myself around eighty; meaning, I feel that I am following these words of wisdom about 80 percent of the time. There is still room for improvement, but I feel like I am ahead of most people. If I had any issue with this book, it is that it does tend to speak in absolutist terms more than I would prefer. It seems to think that everyone is going to be better off and see improvement if they follow this advice, no exceptions. This, of course, is not the case. Will most humans improve their lives and freedom if they follow what this book says? Yes, absolutely. But there will always be exceptions to the rule.Self- improvement is a huge industry and books like The Four Agreements are useful for those who want to live a better, happier, more fulfilling life and need general guidance to reach their goals. This book is about as straightforward as you can get and the ease of reading and no- nonsense approach is just what humanity needs to work out our problems and be all we can be.
  • YOU MUST READ THIS!
This book will literally change your life and your perspective of life for the better. I am so thankful that this book was recommended to me! I can’t praise it enough. I’ve never been so inspired or motivated by a book in my life. Highly recommend that everybody read this. And I mean everybody ????

  • Meditate & Manifest Your Ideal Life
First things first, this book is more or less based on meditation and manifesting the things you really want in life. I’ve decided this year would be different for me. I know, we all say that, but then we fall into our usual routines. Blah blah blah. But I really wanted to be a better me. So I did some reading for books, read reviews and I chose this one. At first, it was super interesting then dry and seemed repetitive, I wasn’t sure I would be able to finish it. I’m in part 3 when you begin to learn to meditate and this is the part that really requires your time and commitment. I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually started the meditation. The reading does say you need 40-60 minutes to meditate daily and sadly, I’m just not sure I have that extra time right now to commit. I have put a lot of the reading to use in my everyday life already and I must say it really is a good read. The author talks about changing your thinking, being more aware of your thoughts and actions. If you think negatively, you’ll react/live in negativity. It’s all about how you think and learning to “rewire your brain” to be less of a negative Nancy and more of a positive Polly. And you can’t just have fleeting thoughts of the life you want, you have to actually get lost in that thought and believe you are in that moment, convince your body that thought is real and happening right now. You have to really want it and believe it will happen for it to happen.I think it was well worth the read honestly, just not really sure when I’ll get to practice the most important part. But I’m not out anything and it did help me anyway.

What Customers Say:

  • Transforming my life positively
This book, and its author, Eckhart Tolle, have changed my life for the better! (It’s going to be hard to keep this review short.)I started reading this book after I went through a very tough time in my life. In late 2018, I was introduced to a kind of yoga practice. The first step in the practice is to finish an online course and practice a few stretching exercises, basic breathing exercises and chanting. It probably works fine for most people, but in my case, it messed me up big time! I started having trouble controlling my energies, lost sleep (just sleeping 2 or 3 hours a night) and was working like crazy at job… Then I went manic. Though I wanted to stop the yoga practice, I couldn’t. It was like a drug at that time! I started talking too much at home and work. People started getting scared of me, since I was pointing out things from their lives that they were themselves only peripherally aware of. I eventually lost my job and almost lost my family too! It took me a few months to realize what had just happened. After that manic phase, I went into severe depression. I had no job, a very strained relationship with my wife, and was blaming myself incessantly. I also stopped the yoga practice around this time. A few months later, when I realized I couldn’t handle it myself, with the help and support of my wife, I went to a psychiatrist… and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder… (I now know through this book that all illnesses are just temporary situations to deal with. I have no identity with the situation. The reason I am mentioning the label here is to help others who might have gotten this label, or other such labels. Right now I am on medication (200 mg daily of a mood stabilizer, called lamotrigine). I see that it helps me, for now. But I don’t buy my psychiatrist’s argument that I have to carry that label for the rest of my life. I was doing just fine for 40 years before the yoga practice… and the situation might change in the future. For now, I am going along with the recommended plan since it is working well and I accept it totally.)The only things that pulled me out of that deep pit was total faith in a Guru (who is not living in His body anymore) and probably, the medicine too. At that time, I had to totally lean on faith, since I had no strength myself. The ego had gotten such a heavy beating that it became extremely scared and depressed. Every moment was torturous and I could do nothing about it. I wanted to commit suicide, but having been raised with strong Hindu spiritual teachings, I knew that suicide would only temporarily postpone the inevitable, and that I would take another life and face the exact same situation. (I don’t know if that is true or not; it at least prevented me from committing suicide.)This book was referred to me in December of 2018 (when I was in full blown mania) by someone whom I met at a bookstore. I knew about the book, but had never read it. The next day, I found a used copy of “The New Earth” by Eckhart for $3 in a used book store. I bought it, but couldn’t read it since I didn’t have any concentration. The moment I read one sentence, my mind took off and I could see where Eckhart was going… (At that time, my mind was telling me there was nothing I didn’t know.)Only in November of 2019, after I went through a full cycle of mania and depression, and was slowly recovering, I borrowed a copy of “The Power of Now” from the local library and started reading it.The very first practice of “watching the thinker” was a revelation… Especially the statement Eckhart made about not judging the thoughts and just watching the mind… I was mostly aware of what was going on in my mind, but I was criticizing the mind the moment it produced what I judged as a “wrong” thought. This created a lot of suffering. It was a huge relief to me that all I need is to just watch it and be the witnessing Presence.Later, Eckhart talked about “watching the inner body” to take attention away from the mind when it’s not needed. This helped me during my job interviews. I had always felt anxious about job interviews… This practice really helped me through that challenge. (I did fine in the interviews and usually got good offers, but the anxiety was so much that my palms and feet would always sweat.)The book doesn’t get into the practical aspects until much later, but its message is very clear here. Separate out life situations from life itself, and deal with situations in a practical manner, doing what you can, one step at a time. And if there are things that you want to change, there are only 3 sane options: 1. walk out if you can, 2. take steps to change it, focusing on what you can do now, or 3. if neither of the above two are possible, accept the situation totally, even if only temporarily. Acceptance itself is a doorway to peace… These teachings are helping me every single time my mind starts to complain or blame. The biggest lesson I learned is to use the mind only when it is necessary, and not follow every single thought that occurs in my mind. The exercise of awareness is the toughest one I have ever done in my life!I still experience mood swings. Unfulfilled desires from the past with respect to my profession keep springing up. (The mind’s imagination here is very strong.) But I know, right now, I have to just live a regular life, as a householder, be with my family and continue my current job. My mind isn’t stable enough for other pursuits now, since it’s constantly changing, going in circles – one day it wants to go back to graduate school, get a PhD and become a professor, next day it wants to go to a tropical island and work as a waiter (getting away from all work that requires my brain), another day it says life is wonderful as it is and how much money I would lose if I went elsewhere… With Eckhart’s help, I now know that all these are just narratives of the mind. I know what’s practical for my life now and what I need to be doing every hour. Just focusing on that is enough. (Let the morrow take care of itself.)Like Eckhart recommends, I am using my situation as a strong motivation to practice Presence. In my case, the situation is not external; it is extremely close to me, since it is my own mind! The suffering I experience when the mind takes me away from the Now is too much to bear. I have no choice now but to practice Presence. My current practice is to just keep my attention on what I should be doing this moment, and keep checking where my attention is. If my attention has gone astray, I don’t condemn myself; I just bring it back to the Now. I find that my job keeps me sufficiently present, but at other times, when mind is not needed, I need to practice this consciously. Due to the force of habit, I frequently fall trap to following useless thoughts, but I am slowly breaking out of that bad habit. I am becoming more aware of my internal state. I also engage myself in helping my son with school work, reading, doing stock investing, writing, spending some time on Facebook, and watching TV shows and movies occasionally. Whatever keeps my mind engaged, or keeps my attention in the present, are all working just fine.Along with this book, Eckhart’s videos on YouTube have also brought my attention back to the teaching. The message is the same, but every time I hear it, it’s fresh!I conclude with the Zen statement from the book: “What, at this moment, is lacking?”
  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Book That Pointed Me Back to the Christ Within, invite to discuss
I used to think I had the “truth,” for that is what you are raised to think in the “restored” Church of Jesus Christ (aka Mormonism), where the fullness of Christ’s teachings and life’s “big secrets” are all revealed and available through devoutly living the faith. In spite of my former devoutly sincere living of the restored gospel as taught in LDS culture, I was more often than not in a living hell state of mind, which affected my heart with intense energy that I can only explain in words as a powerful pain body.I pleaded with the Lord for help, so naively unconcious, like a child in their 1st year of life, especially since my 17th year of absolute depression and anxiety—to depths of hell I am surprised I came out alive from. My brain had created such powerful neuropathways of belief, where I was so unconsciously naïve that even the very word consciousness was taboo and scary. Words like Empath, might have well been witchcraft. I felt so unworthy, so worthless, that just existing, as a very clean, very kind, scincere young man, was hard, for I was to repent of just being alive (no thanks to my Mormon upbringing). Everything I understood was filtered—masked by ego, and even worse, a religious ego (more dangerous than the already difficult ego) trained by false tradintions of religion (Mormonism, in my case), where men take a truth and twist it with their own “righteous” ego, which perverts the simpleness of the way to the literal Christ, Kingdom of God within, here and now, not just some future date of achieved worthiness. It wasn’t until I reached a point where I was genuinely ready to end my life, in my 35th year, after my wife left with the kids (not for infidelity or lack of my own desire, but both our own, unresolved, formerly Mormon egoes, which dominated our marriage in ways we would find out together later on), that I was left with me, myself, and I.At that point, the book had already been introduced to me, by my wife, but I was in a state of mind where I wasn’t ready for it, or better said, my ego scoffed that a book (as I had tried others) could help me find true joy outside the scriptures (bible/book of mormon). It wasn’t until I was alone, filled with high attachment anxiety (losing what I loved most and was completely attached to, my children/family), having left religion, that I first went through this book. The power within me, for the first time, shot past my mind, to my pain-body within my heart, in such a way that I literally experienced the portal of light I had once experienced in my youth—a literal portal of light (a story for another day). Then, each time I read the book, a layer of the thick and painful untruths began to be unlearned (unlearning is harder than learning, for you are literally forming new neuropathways in the brain). I listened to The Power of Now over 16 times within a few months—yes, it was that delicious to my soul, it kept showing me how to simply allow my true essence to surface, peaceful and powerful, even though I could not comprehend most of it in my then unconcious ego-mind. My brain could not make sense of it all quickly enough, but my heart—something shifted enough to let the depth of my soul surface, while I sank into the depth of my true essence, away from the surface waves of drama, circumstance, and ego. Here’s the key insight, and it’s everything: it wasn’t Eckhart, and it wasn’t the book. It was me. Sounds selfish, but the true you inside is the Christ. Literally, Jesus brings us to the Christ—our true identity within—to be healed fully. The Christ brings us to the Kingdom of Heaven within, ultimately to the Father, which is all symbolic of the reality that each of our soul-bodies is a Kingdom of Heaven, here and now.No book or teacher can save you—only you can awaken you. The Holy Spirit (your spirit) leads you (your true self leads you) to the Christ, which points you to Heaven, for today is literally the day of your salvation—but for reals, not just in religious speak and belief—for NO BELIEF IS REQUIRED. Just be still and know that I am God.This book pointed me toward the door, and for the first time, I stepped through it—for reals. For decades, I chased the “easy yoke” and “light burden” Christ spoke of—honestly, 35 years of searching—and it always felt just out of reach. Then one day, it became real. Tangible. Living. Because the peace, the freedom, the salvation I’d been waiting—taught to climb for (in Mormon theology, it’s twisted to mean worthiness in tithe-required gaudy temples)—wasn’t hiding in some future heaven. It was right here, right now, within. The “Kingdom of Heaven” really is inside you, and once you glimpse it—once it surfaces (because it’s already there)—you’ll wonder how you ever missed it.To those who claim this book is “anti-Christ,” I say this with love: that’s the ego talking, wearing religious clothing. Be still. Do one of the many exercises—especially the body scan—the author invites you to practice. The irony couldn’t be thicker. I’ve never known Christ more intimately than when I finally allowed myself to meet Him directly—without the conditioning, the fear, and the image of a punitive “god” (lowercase g) I grew up with, the false traditions of the fathers of religion clouding the simplicity of the way, the straightness of the path, the easy yoke and light burden of Christ, absent the false requirements of “worthiness” interviews, tithings, etc. Everything that is real naturally arises when we are in our true Kingdom of Heaven within. Christ walks with you, for you become like Him (“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect”).This book belongs in every school library—not as a sermon, but as a mirror. It should be discussed, debated, and wrestled with—because belief isn’t required to access what’s already within you. Read it not as doctrine, but as a pointer—a whisper back to the stillness that Christ Himself described: the living presence of “I Am.” The irony in just that statement—“I Am”—has the “become as little children” laughing at its simplicity. No, The Power of Now isn’t an end in itself. It’s evidence that there is a higher, loving intelligence—call it God, Source, Being—that flows through everything and everyone. That power isn’t mocked, and it doesn’t play favorites. All are loved. All are light. All are already whole, even beneath our human pain, conditioning, or perceived flaws. Now I see clearly how cult-like certain religious systems can become—not because the people are bad, but because the structures teach us to look out there for what has always been in here. I’m finally learning what it means to be free, to live awake, and to experience life—not as a test to pass, but as a sacred unfolding.Truly, we can do as Jesus said—“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.”(John 14:12)What?! Do more than He has done? That’s not blasphemy—that’s the fullness of the gospel. It’s the living truth of what happens when we awaken to the Christ within. For today—literally today—is the day of our salvation, not someday in a distant afterlife, not when we’ve “earned” worthiness, but right now, in presence. I hope to share my stories in animated form on my channel boxels on YT or come say hi on x with my same justachilldad, and lets move towards the absense of the greed of wall st which is a typification of the ego unchecked, without grace and humility or meekness. The future is bright, but to get there, we must stand on the precipice of the greatest darkness next to the greatest light. The good news is darkness does not comprehend the light, the people of the world (I literally have mingled with people since, of every nation, in one of the darkest spaces of crypto (a story for another day) are waking up, desiring conciousness over unconcious for-profit deadness of our current system.
  • Mind Bending!
A very thought provoking look at our own awareness. By being present every moment, we will find peace. The letting go of the past and future will be the easy part…giving up our identity in ourselves and our mind will be the tough part. This is very similar to the teachings of David R. Hawkins when he talks about the ego and the noisy mind.
  • This book saved my life
When I was at my worst point in life this book found me. I listened to the audio book version on youtube for free and it literally not only saved my life in that moment but forever. This book woke me up to the games my mind was playing on me and gave me the tools i needed to live a productive life. Before this book I was extremely depressed and now years later I havent given this book to over a dozen people as gifts to anyone iv seen who might be helped by it too.I sent this book to a guy I followed on instagram but barely knew, he told me it saved him too.I truly thank Eckartt Tolle for waking me up from the games my mind was playing on me and helping me love myself and life again. There is very few other things that iv experienced in my 29 years on this earth as life changing as this book.
  • Standard
A very good read if you are already in a safe place.
  • Live in the moment
I have gifted this book to so many people that I have met since one of friends introduced me to this book. One of my favorite books. I always talk about this book to people all the time. It has shown me how important it is to live in the moment! You will never have this moment again so we need to enjoy each moment in our lives.

  • though perhaps for a good man [one who is noble and selfless and worthy] …
While we were still helpless [powerless to provide for our salvation], at the right time Christ died [as a substitute] for the ungodly. Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to willingly give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a good man [one who is noble and selfless and worthy] someone might even dare to die. But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more certain, having been reconciled, that we will be saved [from the consequences of sin] by His life [that is, we will be saved because Christ lives today]. Not only that, but we also rejoice in God [rejoicing in His love and perfection] through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received and enjoy our reconciliation [with God] (Romans 5:6-11, AMP).And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers. And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity].The Wisdom of GodFor the message of the cross is foolishness [absurd and illogical] to those who are perishing and spiritually dead [because they reject it], but to us who are being saved [by God’s grace] it is [the manifestation of] the power of God. For it is written and forever remains written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise [the philosophy of the philosophers],And the cleverness of the clever [who do not know Me] I will nullify.”Where is the wise man (philosopher)? Where is the scribe (scholar)? Where is the debater (logician, orator) of this age? Has God not exposed the foolishness of this world’s wisdom? For since the world through all its [earthly] wisdom failed to recognize God, God in His wisdom was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached [regarding salvation] to save those who believe [in Christ and welcome Him as Savior]. For Jews demand signs (attesting miracles), and Greeks pursue [worldly] wisdom and philosophy, but we preach Christ crucified, [a message which is] to Jews a stumbling block [that provokes their opposition], and to Gentiles foolishness [just utter nonsense], but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks (Gentiles), Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. [This is] because the foolishness of God [is not foolishness at all and] is wiser than men [far beyond human comprehension], and the weakness of God is stronger than men [far beyond the limits of human effort].Just look at your own calling, believers; not many [of you were considered] wise according to human standards, not many powerful or influential, not many of high and noble birth. But God has selected [for His purpose] the foolish things of the world to shame the wise [revealing their ignorance], and God has selected [for His purpose] the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong [revealing their frailty]. God has selected [for His purpose] the insignificant (base) things of the world, and the things that are despised and treated with contempt, [even] the things that are nothing, so that He might reduce to nothing the things that are, so that no one may [be able to] boast in the presence of God. But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God [revealing His plan of salvation], and righteousness [making us acceptable to God], and sanctification [making us holy and setting us apart for God], and redemption [providing our ransom from the penalty for sin], so then, as it is written [in Scripture], “He who boasts and glories, let him boast and glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1: 18-31, AMP).What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us? He who did not spare [even] His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect (His chosen ones)? It is God who justifies us [declaring us blameless and putting us in a right relationship with Himself]. Who is the one who condemns us? Christ Jesus is the One who died [to pay our penalty], and more than that, who was raised [from the dead], and who is at the right hand of God interceding [with the Father] for us. Who shall ever separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? Just as it is written and forever remains written,“For Your sake we are put to death all day long;We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter.”Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:28-39, AMP).Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on Godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you] (Romans 12:1-2, AMP).Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! In this all-out match against sin, others have suffered far worse than you, to say nothing of what Jesus went through—all that bloodshed! So don’t feel sorry for yourselves. Or have you forgotten how good parents treat children, and that God regards you as his children? My dear child, don’t shrug off God’s discipline, but don’t be crushed by it either. It’s the child he loves that he disciplines;the child he embraces, he also corrects.God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly LIVE? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God’s holy best. At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.So don’t sit around on your hands! No more dragging your feet! Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it! (Hebrews 12:1-13, The Message).Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and decisions and how unfathomable and untraceable are His ways! (Romans 11:33).“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him [as personal Savior and Lord] is not judged [for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation]; but the one who does not believe [and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord] is judged already [that one has been convicted and sentenced], because he has not believed and trusted in the name of the [One and] only begotten Son of God [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him]. This is the [verdict] judgment [that is, the cause for indictment, the test by which people are judged, the basis for the sentence]: the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For every wrongdoer hates the Light, and does not come to the Light [but shrinks from it] for fear that his [sinful, worthless] activities will be exposed and condemned. But whoever practices truth [and does what is right—morally, ethically, spiritually] comes to the Light, so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are—accomplished in God [divinely prompted, done with God’s help, in dependence on Him]” (John 3: 16-21, AMP, NLT).Therefore, since we have this ministry, just as we received mercy [from God, granting us salvation, opportunities, and blessings], we do not get discouraged nor lose our motivation. But we have renounced the disgraceful things hidden because of shame; not walking in trickery or adulterating the word of God, but by stating the truth [openly and plainly], we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is [in some sense] hidden [behind a veil], it is hidden [only] to those who are perishing; among them the god of this world [Satan] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving to prevent them from seeing the illuminating light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves [merely] as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give us the Light of the knowledge of the glory and majesty of God [clearly revealed] in the face of Christ. But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves. We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed [unsure of finding a way out], but not driven to despair; hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted [to stand alone]; struck down, but never destroyed; always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown in our body. For we who live are constantly [experiencing the threat of] being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be evidenced in our mortal body [which is subject to death]. So physical death is [actively] at work in us, but [spiritual] life [is actively at work] in you.Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had, who wrote in Scripture, “I believed, therefore I spoke.” We also believe, therefore we also speak, knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and will present us [along] with you in His presence. For all [these] things are for your sake, so that as [God’s remarkable, undeserved] grace reaches to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of [our great] God.Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable (2 Corinthians 4:1-18, AMP).After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar,“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throneand from the Lamb!”And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God. They sang,“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdomand thanksgiving and honorand power and strength belong to our Godforever and ever! Amen” (Revelation 7:9-12, NLT).ADDITIONAL RECCOMENDATIONS:- Repentance: The first word of the Gospel by Richard Owen Roberts- Victory in Spiritual Warfare by Tony Evans- Prayers for Victory in Spiritual Warfare by Tony Evans- The Pursuit of God by A.W. • Infinite stars for a book of eternal wisdom!
    C. S. Lewis rejects the boundaries that divide Christianity’s many denominations. While religious belief is not a concern for some, to many more it is an extremely serious decision, requiring deep thought and the entire energy of the mind.In Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis leads all the Christian religions to common ground. This book is in fact a defense of the beliefs common to all Christians at all times. Originally, these ideas were contained in three separate books. Prior to 1943 they were only heard as informal radio broadcasts. This is why you will see colloquialisms used and the conversational style of the writing. When you read C. S. Lewis’ work, you can hear his voice. Sometimes I forget I am reading. Like a friend with a cup of coffee in hand, he sits across from us. He then leads us up a ladder of logical thinking. He starts on the lowest step and gives us confidence to climb the next step. He guides us through an incredible thought process to a conclusion, which is perhaps so logical it becomes irrevocable truth. If you were to fall off a real ladder, your body would simply be obeying the laws of Gravity. He brilliantly explains how there is an eternal Law of Human Nature. This is the law of how mankind “ought” to behave in order to maintain a safe and happy society where everyone plays fair. Unfortunately, we all know how our society has failed to practice this law in all aspects of life.If you want a definition for this law it can only be “morals.” A word from which many reel, as if a light was shining brightly in their eyes. To others: it is a light by which they see the path they walk through life. C. S. Lewis divides morality into three main sections: the actions, reasons behind the actions and why man was created. When you realize that different beliefs about the universe can make us behave differently; you can then make some compelling arguments in favor of Christianity.C. S. Lewis was an atheist (as was my father once and his writing reminds me of a conversation with my father for some reason, perhaps they came to some of the same conclusions) who later became a Christian. He is perhaps one of the most qualified individuals to discuss a universe at war, for the idea of atheism and Christianity could not be more diametrically opposed.”Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance.” –C. S. LewisLike a voice from the grave (he passed away in 1963), C. S. Lewis speaks as if this message was for the year 2000. I read this work 53 years after it was written and the truths are still eternal. Good and Evil are perhaps the oldest concept we know of. I found it interesting when he pointed out that without good, evil would not exist. That good allows evil to occur. For example: selfishness is undesirable, while unselfishness is desirable. The basis for this is founded in some deep religious beliefs. He explains how this all relates to the moral laws of nature.I enjoyed his discussion of the Theological Virtues (Faith/Hope/Charity) and the Cardinal (pivotal) Virtues (Prudence/Temperance/Justice/Fortitude). His chapter on the issue of “Pride” (the most evil of all vices) also shows how “power” is what pride wants.”There is nothing that makes a man feel more superior to others as being able to move them about like toy soldiers.” –C. S. LewisThrough this book, you will gain a greater understanding of what holds us all together, what makes us responsible to one another. You may even conclude that those who find morals threatening, may in fact be the largest threat to a civilized society. If we all had morals we would simply have a safer environment to thrive and be happy in. It is simply the way you look at it.Mere Christianity is one of the most thought provoking books I have ever read to date! If you are at all interested in the logical basis for Christianity, this book goes to the depths of thought and reveals the essence of the beliefs behind the beliefs. This book becomes perfume, which completely seduces your soul. For Christians, it will be a reminder of the truth you hold dear and a reminder of our eternal life. For those who love the Narnia Chronicles, page 146 gives you an insight into the “time factor.” (The children in the story can leave the material world and when they return, time never changes.)One of my favorite quotes from Mere Christianity:” When it (Christianity) tells you to feed the hungry it does not give you a lesson in cookery.” –C. S. Lewis, page 79On page 87 you will also find a beautiful passage. It is my all-time favorite passage to explain LIFE! It is a must read. This book will put your brain in gear and send you on a drive to enlightenment. I intend to read every one of Lewis’ books. His work is deep, yet understandable. Eternally Recommended.C. S. Lewis is my all-time favorite author. I was first introduced to his writing as a very young child in second grade. It was then that I fell in love with his writing. Through the Narnia Chronicles, C.S. Lewis weaves the morals and beliefs children need to learn.I recommend Mere Christianity for non-Christians and Christians. For all children, The Chronicles of Narnia will enlighten them and they will never forget the stories! I also reviewed the set. They are the most magical stories a child can read. Mere Christianity is perhaps the most brilliant explanation for Christian beliefs any adult can read.~The Rebecca Review

The Case for Christ, Revised & Updated: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus

  • Worth the Read
The Case for Christ is a powerful, deeply personal investigation that balances journalistic integrity with profound spiritual discovery. Lee Strobel, a former legal editor and skeptic, applies his investigative training to rigorously examine the historical and medical evidence surrounding Jesus. He interviews leading scholars, carefully analyses biblical manuscripts, and explores the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection with respectful curiosity and intellectual honesty. What makes this book stand out is Strobel’s transparency—he shares his inner doubts and emotional journey, making the narrative relatable even if you aren’t a believer. His clear, accessible writing keeps the pace engaging, while the depth of research lends it real credibility.Whether you’re exploring faith, seeking historical truth, or simply enjoy a compelling investigation, The Case for Christ offers an honest, thoughtful, and hopeful examination of one of history’s most influential figures.
  • Lee Strobel provides the legwork.
Before I was persuaded to read this book, I was under the impression, as it appears that many are, that Strobel was converted from atheism while conducting his “Case for Christ”. This is not the reality of the situation and Strobel makes no attempt to hide this fact. In the introduction Strobel writes, “That’s what this book is about. In effect, I’m going to retrace and expand upon the spiritual journey I took for nearly two years.” (p. 14). It is no mystery that by the time he began conducting the interviews for this book Strobel was already a Christian. Where does one turn if they want the most scholarly information about Jesus Christ as shown in a Christian light? Well…Christian scholars, of course. This book is biased by the fact that only Christians are referenced in the research conducted for this work but, after all, the purpose of this work is to convey the outcome of Strobel’s personal investigation. One would have to believe that it was Strobel’s goal to clearly depict the end result of his own research, rather than to jumble the intended message with contradictory opinions and fact. “The Case for Christ” is an amazing stepping stone for individuals interested in further intellectual research into Christianity. Strobel consulted some of the most respected and credible scholars in their fields of study while coming to his ultimate conclusion. The information that Strobel made available throughout this work would have translated into an incredible amount of reading and research if one attempted to obtain the same information on their own, not to insinuate that one should take this information as the final authority. The fact that all of Strobel’s references are believers in the Christian faith does nothing to belittle the fact that the information they divulge is to the best of their knowledge as respected scholars. In other words, the interviewees say nothing that they believe or know to be a proven falsehood. In “The Case for Christ”, Lee Strobel sets out to determine whether or not Jesus Christ was who he claimed to be, or if he even existed. Strobel effectively presents the evidence for this “case” as it might have been presented in a court of law. Strobel applied the knowledge that he obtained at Yale Law School and his experience as the legal affairs editor of the Chicago Tribune to present the information he obtained in this well thought out and extremely readable book. The importance of this work is the fact that the entire Christian religion hinges on whether or not Jesus Christ was the person portrayed in the Christian Bible and Strobel realizes this. As far as the information surrounding Jesus’ existence, his life, and his death, Strobel leaves no stone unturned. To further illustrate his point, Strobel is often found playing the devil’s advocate…no pun intended…by posing some of the leading arguments against what his references are claiming to be true, and then asking them to provide an answer. While some of the issues attended to in “The Case for Christ” are hot topics in religious debate today; the arguments provided by Strobel’s interviewees are just as convincing and though provoking as those that could be found in any intellectual argument for or against Jesus Christ.”The Case for Christ” is certainly a compelling read and I would recommend that anyone, of any religion or lack thereof, use the information it provides and apply it however one chooses. This is a pro-Christian work and should be looked at as such, but for those who are either new believers in the Christian faith or simply looking for a little guidance in their search for the big questions, Strobel provides a great deal of insight that one might not come across on their own. “The Case for Christ” is well written and unlike many books of this genre, resists the urge to force feed its information and opinions to people who are not, as of yet, ready to commit their life in one direction or the other.
  • Thought-Provoking and Well-Researched
I’ve been reading The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, and I’m really enjoying it. What I like is that he started as a skeptic and asks the same kinds of questions I think a lot of people have. He talks with historians and scholars and breaks it all down in a way that’s easy to follow, not overly complicated. It feels more like a conversation than a lecture. If you’re curious about the evidence for Jesus or just want a book that makes you think, this is definitely a good one to pick up.
  • Not afraid to ask difficult questions. A must-read.
I have been wanting to expand my understanding of Christian apologetics for many years by reading Josh McDowell’s Evidence That Demands a Verdict. Thumbing through the book in bookstores showed it to be in a rather dry outline form that discouraged me from actually following through. I was introduced to Lee Strobel a couple years ago when a pastor at my church was teaching my Bible study class from Strobel’s God’s Outrageous Claims. I recently discovered that Strobel wrote a book investigating the claims of Christianity and was eager to read it. That book is The Case for Christ. It proved to be more readable than Evidence, but still convicingly makes the case for Christ.Strobel, a lawyer and journalist, who covered the topsy-turvy world of Chicago crime, applied his training to verify or discount the claims of Christianity. An admitted atheist, he took up this task after his wife accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. He studied all of the information he could find from both supporters and detractors of Christianity and then set out on a several year voyage of research and interviews with experts in various fields. The Case for Christ is a history of this voyage.Strobel applies the various legal evidences that would be required for a conviction in the courts: eyewitness accounts, documents, corroboration, science, rebuttals, psychology, profiles, “fingerprints,” medical evidences and circumstantial evidence. There are 14 chapters in all, and in each, he examines a different type of evidence and interviews an acknowledged expert in the field, travelling all over the US to do so. Each chapter addresses a question such as: Do historical accounts outside of the Bible confirm the life of Jesus? Were the eyewitnesses reliable? Was there credible evidence of the empty tomb? Could Jesus have survived the flogging and crucifixion? The list goes on an on, and I can’t imagine that it leaves many stones unturned for someone verifying the claims of the church. All in all, he verifies the claims of Christianity most convincingly, and does so in a very academic manner. Even though this book is fairly easy to read, it is appropriately referenced. These can be very complex subjects, and about the only complaint that might be levied on this book is that it does not go deep enough. To do so would require volumes, though, and Strobel gives references for someone wanting to investigate further.I was trying to complete another book when I picked this one up. A mistake. I had trouble putting it back down. I certainly recommend this book to all Christians. It is not afraid to ask difficult questions, and is a welcome change from the fluffy, feel-good books that flood Christian book stores. Although this is information with which every Christian should be familiar, I also recommend the book for anyone investigating the claims of Christianity. We all probably suspect the end: Strobel, facing the undeniable mountain of evidence, accepts Christ himself, concluding, “it would require much more faith for me to maintain my atheism that to trust in Jesus of Nazareth!”
  • Happy with purchase.
Great book, very interesting. Would recommend

  • Ignorance Is Not Bliss, It’s Folly
I finished reading this books days ago but I was not sure what I would write as a review. The headline to this review is “Ignorance is not bliss, it’s folly.” This is true. We cannot afford to be ignorant concerning the things of God. However, we must tread with caution into what areas we will wade ourselves into. Like a child first learning to swim (or walk) and the parent guides them into the waters gently but also firmly indicating to the child that they need not fear. We too, must tread carefully into spiritual matters of every sort and I believe Mr. Lee Strobel has consistently done this in his journalistic and investigative approach in his written works and with those with whom he as interviewed on such topics and subject matter. In “Seeing the Supernatural: Investigating Angels, Demons, Mystical Dreams, Near-Death Encounters, and other Mysteries of the Unseen World”, Mr. Lee Strobel provides us with ample information from credible sources that allows us in a word to get a peek behind the curtain on a wide range of topics and subject matter many are curious about and wonder if there is legitimate proof to them and should they be taken seriously. All that is covered in this book is fascinating but not the end goal as it were. All these things covered in this book should consistently points us to God and back to God. They should solidify faith in God, belief in the supernatural and show us by the many interviewed, that the Scripture we have, are sufficient to stabilize underneath us a firm foundation on which to stand. Why would I recommend this book? The answer is simple. Lee Strobel’s: “Seeing the Supernatural: Investigating Angels, Demons, Mystical Dreams, Near-Death Encounters, and other Mysteries of the Unseen World”, is an interesting, curious and fun read, that is well researched. It provides many avenues for continued study into such topics within the book itself through the many notes provided that correspond to each chapter. This book will challenge your assumptions and perhaps even change your thinking on certain things you thought weren’t possible. The last chapter being “Ghost Stories, Psychics, and the Paranormal (in my opinion) deserves a second read. When you arrive at the end of Mr. Lee Strobel’s book “Seeing the Supernatural: Investigating Angels, Demons, Mystical Dreams, Near-Death Encounters, and other Mysteries of the Unseen World”, you will find yourself wanting more, ever more curious and hopefully having a more confident view of the afterlife in view of what God had to say (revealed) about all things commonly referred to as the Supernatural.
  • Amazing book that answers many questions
This book is absolutely fascinating. I love the layout of the book. Each chapter has its own focus and Strobel interviews an expert in that focus in each chapter. I love this type of layout and how Strobel goes through the interviews. This book is great at combining many different areas that relate to or are about Christianity. The combination makes a great cumulative case to believe why it’s reasonable that we have souls and our body is not all that exists. It further talks about the reliability of the gospels and how we can have very good reason to believe they are in fact eye witness testimonies. Other topics are near death experiences, visions/dreams etc. All with statistics and experts that lay out what we know from these cases, and how a supernatural explanation can only be the one arrived at. It’s amazing. When reading the book, chapter after chapter, I realized that Lee is really serious in investigating this realm. It showed when interviewing each expert. He asked basic questions to create a starting point of the topic and later on asked tough questions. He played devils advocate and asked clarifying questions bringing up common rebuttals of the experts. This definitely enhanced my experience and knowledge as I could see how the expert then answered to the rebuttal. I appreciated this, especially after being a police officer for 7 years. It showed you did not want a surface level explanation and wanted experts to dig deep and articulate their point. You wanted an objective, truthful and in depth explanation. The last thing I want to bring up is the last chapter of the book. I will say I disagree with some of what Ron said, but agree with most of it, as it’s based in scripture too. Ron did make it seem like most paranormal instances are often a case of mistaken identity based on people’s bias towards it. To me he made it seem as if pretty much most instances of paranormal are not real. I apologize if that is not how he meant it, but it is just how I felt after reading what he had to say about the paranormal. I don’t think all TV shows fake things, that seems a little disingenuous. Many of the locations that are said to be haunted are known haunted locations for years in those communities. Video footage of objects clearly being moved with purpose can be seen. I don’t want to get into an exhaustive explanation of this, but feel I should atleast point some things out.I have watched some current paranormal TV shows and sometimes the shows are quite boring in episodes. Nothing happens or very little happens. To me, this makes it believable. I’ve actually even seen the cast call out the family or business of the location on being deceptive and faking a haunting just to get air time. It also seems disingenuous to say that because it’s a TV show and they make money it therefore is fake. The logic does not follow, and some of these investigators truly have a passion for investigating this phenomena.Yes many people do fake it, and that’s an issue. I consider my wife to be very objective and she has told me some wild stories about haunted houses she grew up in. It wasn’t knocks, or scratches. It was unplugged early 1900s radios that were playing songs. It was a chest sliding across the floor and a rocking chair set on top of it, among many more. However, I recognize and sympathize that if an experience is genuine that demons are at the forefront, and family members are not really there. My argument is that not everything is fake. However, I will be looking into Ron more to learn more about him. I’m also going to purchase one of his books and read it as well. It’s only fair, and honestly I need to give him the benefit of the doubt as he probably would believe the things I just said, but was not able to talk about it in depth in the book.Overall, if I could rate this book 10 stars I would. I pre-ordered it several months back after learning about it from Lee’s interview on the Shawn Ryan Show. I will be giving this book to several others to read. I feel like most Christians, skeptics or those on the verge of coming to faith, don’t know a lot of this stuff and it would further bolster their belief and give them an ability to explain why they believe what they believe to others.Thank you Lee Strobel and all who were apart of this great book. Please…do yourself a favor and read it. Equip yourself.

What a great book. If you are older and have a faith that comforts you, then this is a book to read. It just confirms everything I was thinking and feeling. It is based on scripture and not occultish at all. It actually strengthened my fait. Great author too.
